First off, of course, we must remember that the battle is not ours. Earth to you: the battle is the Lord's. The God who spoke the universe into being is in charge of this fight, not you. That should take some of the pressure off. He only is the One responsible for getting you--and everyone depending on you--through this firestorm.
You don't have to solve the problems facing you, or figure a way of escape (hallelujah!)--those are God's jobs. What you must do is look to him and keep your eyes on him. He will go ahead of you and fight for you, as he did for King Jehoshaphat in 2 Chronicles 20. In verse 2, the king received a report that a huge army was coming against him. His first reaction was to turn to God in public prayer and fasting. In verse 12, he ended that prayer with a request to the Lord he trusted to handle the looming disaster facing his people:
“O our God, will you not judge them? For we have no power to face this vast army that is attacking us. We do not know what to do, but our eyes are upon you.”
Then, the Spirit of the Lord directed a man in the audience to say to the King, “This is what the Lord says to you: ‘Do not be afraid or discouraged because of this vast army. For the battle is not yours, but God’s...’ ”
In the next blog, we'll talk about how King Jehoshaphat went to battle. If you want to read it for yourself, just look at 2 Chronicles 20. Hint: There's a whole lot of power in praise.
Take away whatever else God gives you from the host of blessings from this marvelous jewel of a story from God's treasure box. Remember: the battle is the Lord's. And when you don't know what to do, put your eyes on him. You will do very well, indeed.
He's not only with you in the battle--it's his to win. Rest in that, dear one.
The joy of the Lord is your strength. Nehemiah 8:10
