The Source of our confidence

So God has given us both his promise and his oath. These two things are unchangeable because it is impossible for God to lie. Therefore, we who have fled to him for refuge can take new courage, for we can hold on to his promise with confidence. This confidence is like a strong and trustworthy anchor for our souls. It leads us through the curtain of heaven into God's inner sanctuary.
Hebrews 6:18,19

The salad spinners of our daily lives can keep our emotions in steady turmoil. Good news? Hooray--we're winners!  Bad news? We're losers. We're constantly deciding our deepest sense of worth based on the world around us and our feelings at the moment. We're left without any serenity in our hearts.

More, we feel unworthy of joining God in the inner sanctuary.  The curtain of the past seems like a barrier--we forget that Jesus tore it from top to bottom with his death on the Cross, ripping open that Holiest of Holies to all who believe.

You may not feel as if you are in God's inner sanctuary right now--or ever--but here is the good news: the reality of God's promises depend on him, not your feelings.  Have you fled to him? As a believer, indeed you already have. Your confidence is based on his trustworthiness, not your beaten-down self. Praise God!

Without him as an anchor for my soul, I can't begin to imagine my life. Just like you, I am a superstar to God, but I am a spectacular doofus as well. I can be on-fire one moment, then slogged down and frustrated the next. Just when I think I have aced something, a new glaring weakness will hit me in the face.  No worries about staying humble.

God never promises what he cannot fulfill for you. Anchor your soul in the confidence of this God, who has already brought you into his inner circle, whether you feel it or not. Your pain, your failures will never keep you from him--unless you let them.

He has pulled the curtain aside, and he himself welcomes you in, today, tomorrow, and forever. Flee to him for refuge, and take new courage by anchoring yourself in his promises.  To him be the glory!

  1. There is so much in our lives to sift through. We need to rely on feeling His pull, His push to keep us moving on His path towards His suggested destination.

  2. I love the word anchor. It seems when I anchor to Him, He steers me in the course of truth and peace no matter what is occurring in my life. Great post. Thank you.

  3. Dear Readers, I welcome you all! For the above writer, could you please add a translation of your words for those of us who don't speak your language? Thus far, I'm trusting it is uplifting. If not, will someone please tell me, so I can remove it? Thanks! J.Eliz
